Back to the Garden - Paperback

by Arnold William Porter (Author)

Back to the Garden is a big story that spans many years and places. Ryan's epic journey through the counterculture of the 70's takes him from Vietnam-era San Francisco to a remote island off the coast of British Columbia, a place where ravens relay their coded messages through the dark forests.Out on the island, Ryan finds himself surrounded by others like himself who are trying to establish a radically new life among its abandoned homesteads. When person after person is drawn into the depersonalized life of a mysterious spiritual commune, Ryan wonders about its power to pull people from their homes and families. It awakens in him questions about the purpose of his own life. In telling the story of Ryan's kaleidoscopic journey, Back to the Garden explores relationship, nature, drugs, travel, spirituality and the Edenic quest-the human drive to create a better world. This fascinating account teems with the change and experimentation of those years. Back to the Garden portrays the confusion, sorrows, and chaos of this odyssey but also the euphoria, joy, and curiosity of searching for meaning on a road less travelled.
