This book is not meant to be a political statement, and it does not try to take any political position. At its heart, it is a story about resilience, humanity, and family. The story itself is now more than 85 years old. I felt it was important to preserve it and keep it alive so it would not be forgotten. I know there are many stories like this one some even more difficult and heartbreaking. But this story is mine. It belongs to my family, and to my father. It is a small piece of history, a tiny sliver of the past, that perhaps deserves to be shared and heard.
