Higher Ground was a multi-year project for author and photographer Beth Yarborough. As her travels and daily postings for the Southern Voice carried her across the South, she could not help but notice the churches. In the small towns and crossroads communities, even sometimes just around the bend in the road, there would always be a fine little church or two, built with extra attention to detail using the best resources of time, talent and money the congregations had to offer. Naturally, she began photographing them and saving their stories, the result is Higher Ground, a beautiful love story to the communities of the south.
