Gay physio Brooksy hopes to entice club captain Nathan out of the closet and onto his massage table. But when a sex abuse scandal hits the club and a youth player is found dead in the club showers, Brooksy fears the chances of Nathan coming out are zero. One reviewer comments: At the time of writing, only eight male club footballers have come out as LGBT+. Shepherd skilfully puts this issue mid-field in this fast-paced and timely novel. What results is an easy-to-read and much needed look at the taboo of homosexuality in club football. Containing strong themes of anger, self-hatred, mental ill health, and prejudice, this one is worth the read.
