When I was in the penitentiary, I literally met thousands of Black African American Men and Boys with identical childhoods as mine, although their stories might have been different. Allow me to clarify, I was employed in the penitentiary, yet, I did "time" in 10 hour shifts with weekends and holidays off however on those days, I was still mentally incarcerated. To paraphrase Malcolm X, we are all in prison - a mental prison. It was not until I was able to go back into my past was I not only mentally paroled, but I was mentally pardoned. My story and journey are the story and journey of thousands of Black African American Brothers - young and old alike! Hopefully by picking up my book and walking with me through my past, they too will be able to experience that emotional catharsis and meet their Spiritual Self! Ase'
