Ron James, known in the service as 'Jimmy', joined the Air Force in 1942 and served as a mid-upper gunner in the crew of Squadron Leader Bill Day, DFC. He completed two tours of operations. His first tour was with No 90 Squadron on Stirling Bombers, where he took part in raids on Hamburg, Essen, Turin, Peenemunde, Berlin & Mannheim.
