This book is based on lectures given by the author at two different IDA Congress in Dubai, 2019 [2] and Sydney, 2022 [3]. The author and engineers of the Consulting Company Increa have large and valuable experience in the design of marine installations (intake and outfall pipes and intake structure) for desalination plants as they have been designing them all over the world and in any kind of environment. This paper describes some of the problems that can happen during operation of the plants and the way they can be solved in the design stage. A proper design of marine installations should consider the most probable situations that can happen. Besides common operation, there are accidental situations and the risks associated to them should be evaluated and minimized.
