What started as a recounting of treasured memories gradually took on characteristics of a dot-to-dot puzzle. As I added memory to memory, I became aware of connections I had never noticed before. When workplace sabotage brought to light a rare genetic liver condition, I did not welcome it as part of my heritage, but you don't get to choose your heritage. Recalling joys, triumphs and never before admitted misdeeds of my youth connected more dots in the puzzle. These stories are meant to be read and enjoyed individually, as I wrote them. As I added story to story, I gradually realized my heritage was like a blueprint that I was largely unaware of but which, in retrospect, I realize has played a part in shaping me.
