He received the Croix de Guerre with Palm for conspicuous bravery. McConnell's book inspired the 2006 movie Flyboys.
Author Biography
James R. McConnell was an American volunteer in the French Flying Service from 1915 until his death March 19th, 1917. He was wounded once prior to his death above St.-Quentin, France.
