No other country had ever before such a distance before to carry their grievously wounded, and taking into consideration the fact that the ship had to load up with necessary foods and supplies for such long voyages at their home ports, only taking coal, water, fresh fruit and vegetables at the various ports of call, it was meritorious service of devotion on behalf of our Australian wounded, and in keeping with the world's deeds performed on the Western front in Egypt and Palestine.
Rex Sargent (later Doctor Rex Sargent), was a keen photographer. Many photos developed by him in the ship's laboratory illustrate his experiences written down in his Diaries which he kept meticulously every day from 1917-1919, these plus some surviving letters sent to his Mother in Adelaide compile a most interesting tale, and show a totally different aspect of war service.
