Teenie: Newslady in Training - Paperback

by Steen Miles (Author)
Teenie is the true story of the coming of age of a young African American girl whose parents, from a poor, segregated rural area of Mississippi, raised her in a white, middle-class northern Indiana neighborhood during the 1950's and early 60's. Teenie initially expresses her hurt and anger over racism, sexism, colorism, and classism by striking back at her tormentors. Her father, a Baptist minister, lovingly but firmly holds tight the reins on this wild, young colt, who by amazing grace is transformed into quite the thoroughbred. The reader is taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions that will have you laughing, crying, and even angry as you experience the clash of cultures between the "Rev" and his strong-willed, first born, Teenie. "Train up a child in the way that (s)he should go and when (s)he is older (s)he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22: 6
